The first Chinese training course on earthquake and geological disaster reduction and technology was held successfully at the China Institute of Disaster Prevention (CIDP), Beijing, China from November 7-11, 2014. The program, sponsored by ICGdR, focused on theoretical and practical knowledge of pioneering research methods and technology on earthquake and geological disaster reduction. This year’s event witnessed turnout of over 80 participants comprised of promising young scholars and researchers from China. They were joined by over 10 professors and experts, including notable academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences: Profs. Manchao He, Cui Peng, and Peizhen Zhang, that delivered spectacular lectures on several topics. During the course, the participants were able to visit the famous Tangshan earthquake memorial park, an earthquake simulation laboratory in CIDP, several underground structures and an engineering geology laboratory. Also visited, as part of field investigation by the participants, was the Xiadian active Fault in suburban area of Beijing. Being a knowledge exchange platform, this course obtained high and positive feedbacks from the participants, as it is of great significance for the promotion of geo-disaster reduction.
